45. Love Package from Korea

We’ve been excited for quite a while, waiting for a box to arrive from South Korea. When it finally turned up, my wife and daughter could hardly wait to open it and see what was inside.

우리는 한국에서 올 상자를 꽤 오랫동안 기대하며 기다려 왔다. 마침내 상자가 도착했을 때, 아내와 딸은 안에 무엇이 들어 있을지 너무 궁금해서 바로 열어보고 싶어 했다.

The box was packed full of things they love — familiar snacks, ingredients that are hard to find here, and a few items I couldn’t even identify, though I’m sure they’re delicious. It felt like a little slice of home arriving at our door.

상자 안에는 그들이 좋아하는 간식들, 이곳에서는 구하기 힘든 재료들, 그리고 내가 정확히 뭔지 잘 모르겠는 물건들까지 가득 들어 있었다. 그래도 분명 다 맛있을 거라는 확신이 들었다. 마치 집의 한 조각이 도착한 느낌이었다.

For me, though, the real highlight was the kimchi. It had been homemade by my mother-in-law, and it was absolutely incredible. One taste was enough to bring back a flood of memories.

하지만 나에게 가장 큰 감동은 바로 장모님이 직접 담가 주신 김치였다. 정말 말로 표현하기 어려울 만큼 훌륭했고, 한 입 먹는 순간 수많은 추억이 떠올랐다.
