49. Teaching Creative Writing to Teenagers

Yesterday, my students really impressed me in their creative writing class. A group of teenagers each wrote their own piece using a clear structure: drop, zoom, flash, and echo. It was wonderful to see them approach the task with such focus and imagination.

어제 저는 창의적 글쓰기 수업에서 학생들에게 정말 깊은 인상을 받았습니다. 한 무리의 십대 학생들이 drop, zoom, flash, echo라는 구조를 활용해 각자 자신의 글을 완성했습니다. 학생들이 이렇게 집중력과 상상력을 가지고 과제에 임하는 모습을 보는 것은 정말 기쁜 일이었습니다.

They began with the “drop,” describing a picture in vivid detail to set the scene. Then came the “zoom,” where they focused closely on one specific part of the image, exploring tiny details and hidden meanings. This helped to draw the reader in and create a strong sense of atmosphere.

학생들은 먼저 “drop” 단계에서 생생한 묘사를 통해 장면을 설정했습니다. 그다음 “zoom” 단계에서는 사진의 특정 부분을 자세히 들여다보며 작은 세부 요소와 숨겨진 의미를 탐구했습니다. 이는 독자가 장면 속으로 더 깊이 빠져들 수 있도록 도와주고 강한 분위기를 만들어 주었습니다.

Next was the “flash,” where they flashed back to an earlier event that explained why the picture looked the way it did. This added depth and emotion to their writing. Finally, in the “echo,” they imagined a change to the picture and described what happened next, creating a sense of movement and possibility beyond the original image.

그다음은 “flash” 단계로, 학생들은 사진이 현재의 모습이 된 이유를 설명하는 과거의 사건을 떠올렸습니다. 이는 글에 깊이와 감정을 더해 주었습니다. 마지막으로 “echo” 단계에서는 사진에 변화를 상상하고 그 이후에 일어난 일을 묘사하며, 원래의 이미지를 넘어서는 새로운 가능성과 흐름을 만들어 냈습니다.

The work was incredibly creative, and I was genuinely impressed by their ideas and effort. Of course, punctuation, vocabulary, and grammar are always important, but what stood out most was their originality and willingness to experiment with structure. They should be very proud of what they achieved.

학생들의 작품은 매우 창의적이었고, 저는 그들의 아이디어와 노력에 진심으로 감탄했습니다. 물론 문장 부호, 어휘, 문법도 중요하지만, 가장 인상 깊었던 점은 그들의 독창성과 새로운 구조를 시도하려는 태도였습니다. 학생들은 자신들이 이뤄 낸 결과에 충분히 자부심을 가져도 됩니다.
