24. Day 7: Bolsover Castle Trip

A weaker team might have looked out the window, seen the weather, and decided to stay home—but not us. We headed straight to Bolsover Castle and made the most of the day. Even walking past the Wetherspoons, we weren’t tempted in the slightest. Instead, we pushed onward toward adventure, ready to embrace whatever the castle had to offer.

일반적인 사람이라면 날씨를 보고 “오늘은 그냥 집에 있자”고 했겠지만, 우리는 달랐습니다. 우리는 볼소버 성으로 향해 하루를 제대로 즐기기로 했습니다. 웨더스푼스 앞을 지나갈 때조차 흔들리지 않고, 모험을 향한 마음 하나로 성으로 걸음을 옮겼습니다.

Inside the castle, we explored the Grand Hall, imagining the echoes of people who once filled the space. We played with period toys and even dressed in historical costumes, slipping—just for a moment—into another era. It felt like stepping straight into the pages of history, living scenes that once unfolded centuries ago.

성 안으로 들어가 그랜드 홀을 둘러보며 과거의 사람들이 이곳을 가득 채웠을 모습을 상상했습니다. 옛날 장난감을 만져보고 시대 의상도 입어보며 잠시나마 다른 시대 속으로 들어간 듯한 느낌이 들었습니다. 마치 역사 속 장면 한가운데로 들어간 것처럼 생생하게 느껴졌습니다.

We eventually wandered into the Christmas section, where the incredible smell hit us immediately. It was warm, festive, and completely magical. And yes—people in the past celebrated Christmas too, apparently in ways even bigger and grander than today. It was a delightful reminder that the spirit of celebration truly runs through time.

그러다 크리스마스 코너로 들어갔는데, 그 순간 퍼지는 향기가 정말 놀라웠습니다. 따뜻하고, 축제 같고, 마법 같은 분위기였습니다. 과거의 사람들도 크리스마스를 기념했는데, 오늘날보다 훨씬 더 크게 즐겼다는 사실도 놀라웠습니다. 축제의 정신이 시대를 초월한다는 것을 느끼게 해주는 순간이었습니다.

After returning home, we settled into a wholesome game of chess before the girls took on the joyful task of decorating the Christmas cake. I can’t wait to taste it—the cake is going to be absolutely delicious. With a day full of history, laughter, and festive cheer, all that’s left to say is: Merry Christmas, everybody.

집에 돌아온 뒤 우리는 훈훈한 체스 한 판을 즐기고, 아이들은 크리스마스 케이크를 꾸미기 시작했습니다. 그 케이크가 얼마나 맛있을지 벌써부터 기대가 됩니다. 역사와 웃음, 그리고 크리스마스의 기쁨으로 가득한 하루를 보낸 후 마지막으로 할 말은 하나뿐입니다. 모두 메리 크리스마스!
