27. Day 10: Relaxing Sunday

Sunday is often seen as a day for slowing down, resting, and doing very little—and in many families, it’s also a traditional day for going to church. Today, we decided to bring our guests to Sheffield Cathedral for the evening song service at 4 p.m., just as the daylight was beginning to fade. The timing felt perfect, matching the quietness of a Sunday afternoon.

일요일은 보통 천천히 쉬고, 많은 일을 하지 않는 날로 여겨지며, 많은 가정에서 교회에 가는 전통적인 날이기도 합니다. 오늘 우리는 손님들과 함께 오후 4시에 열리는 셰필드 대성당의 이브닝송 예배에 참석하기로 했습니다. 해가 저물어 가는 시간과 어울려 일요일 오후의 고요함과 잘 맞는 시간이었습니다.

We received a warm welcome when we arrived. Since we were a little early, we had time to explore the cathedral’s Christmas tree display before the service began. The lights, decorations, and creativity behind each tree added to the sense of anticipation. Soon after, we settled into our seats and listened to beautiful music and thoughtful words that felt both calming and inspiring.

도착하자 따뜻한 환영을 받았습니다. 조금 일찍 도착한 덕분에 예배가 시작되기 전 성당 안의 크리스마스 트리 전시를 둘러볼 시간이 있었습니다. 불빛과 장식, 그리고 각 트리에 담긴 창의성이 마음을 설레게 했습니다. 곧 자리에 앉아 아름다운 음악과 깊이 있는 말씀을 들으며 차분하면서도 영감이 가득한 시간을 보냈습니다.

Before heading to the cathedral, we had some time to spare, so we wandered through the Christmas market. As often happens, we found ourselves delightfully sidetracked by Oayo, the Korean market stall. It seems you can take the girls out of Korea, but you really can’t take Korea out of the girls. Their faces lit up as they recognized snacks and items from home.

대성당으로 가기 전에는 시간이 조금 남아 크리스마스 마켓을 천천히 둘러보았습니다. 그러다 언제나 그렇듯 한국 마켓 ‘오아요’에 발길이 머물고 말았습니다. 아이들을 한국에서 데리고 올 수는 있어도, 한국을 아이들에게서 떼어낼 수는 없다는 말이 딱 맞았습니다. 익숙한 한국 간식과 물건들을 보며 아이들의 얼굴이 환하게 밝아졌습니다.

They were thrilled to discover things they could take home to enjoy later—small comforts that help bridge the distance between here and there. It made me reflect on how everyone has their own idea of “home comforts,” little pieces of familiarity that make the world feel softer. So, I’m curious: what are yours?
