28. Day 11: York Visit

Today we took my daughter and her friend, who is visiting from Korea, on a trip to the historic city of York. It’s only about an hour away from us, yet it always feels like stepping into a completely different world. We visit a couple of times a year, but it never loses its charm or sense of wonder.

오늘 우리는 한국에서 방문 중인 딸의 친구와 함께 딸을 데리고 역사적인 도시 요크로 나들이를 갔습니다. 집에서 한 시간 정도밖에 걸리지 않지만, 그곳에 도착하면 언제나 전혀 다른 세상에 들어온 듯한 느낌이 듭니다. 일 년에 몇 번씩 찾는 곳이지만, 매번 그 매력과 특별함은 여전합니다.

We began the day by climbing the tower, where the view across the city was absolutely fabulous. From above, York reveals itself as a truly beautiful and historic place, with layers of history visible in every direction. Standing there, it’s easy to understand why the city has captivated visitors for centuries.

우리는 먼저 탑에 올라가 도시 전경을 내려다보는 것으로 하루를 시작했습니다. 위에서 바라본 요크의 모습은 정말 환상적이었고, 사방 어디를 봐도 역사가 겹겹이 쌓여 있는 진정한 역사 도시라는 느낌이 들었습니다. 그 자리에 서 있으니 왜 이 도시가 수세기 동안 사람들을 매료시켜 왔는지 자연스럽게 이해가 되었습니다.

After that, we wandered over to The Shambles, the magical street lined with shops that time seems to have forgotten. We then explored the market, browsing all sorts of interesting stalls and unique items. It would have been very easy to spend a small fortune there, surrounded by so many tempting things.

그다음에는 시간이 멈춘 듯한 상점들로 가득한 마법 같은 거리, 샴블스를 거닐었습니다. 이어서 시장을 둘러보며 다양한 물건과 흥미로운 물품들을 구경했죠. 워낙 볼거리와 살 것이 많아서 마음만 먹으면 큰돈을 쓰기 쉬운 곳이었습니다.

Instead, we finished the day in true high-street style with a meal at Wetherspoons. Surrounded by plenty of comforting carbs, we relaxed, laughed, and enjoyed a satisfying end to a wonderful day out. It left me wondering—when you spend a day out with family and friends, what do you most like to do?

하지만 우리는 대신 전형적인 하이스트리트 스타일로 웨더스푼스에서 식사를 하며 하루를 마무리했습니다. 든든한 탄수화물 음식들에 둘러싸여 편안하게 쉬며 웃고 이야기하다 보니, 정말 만족스러운 하루의 끝이 되었습니다. 문득 궁금해졌습니다. 여러분은 가족이나 친구들과 하루를 보낼 때 무엇을 가장 좋아하시나요?
